The aura of being in Naples has settled in and a regular routine has been
established. Working in the Capodichino clinic solo gets lonely at times but
the freedom of independence makes it worth it. The clinic crew is
what makes it worthwhile there. They are a good group of people who are
tight knit and get along. Most departments from my previous duty station and
current duty station separate work and play but everyone at the clinic is
mature enough to get along "drama free." The clinic staff is considered the
red headed step children since most of us are unseen to the hospital people
but at the end of the day we have a mission and take care of our patients to
our best ability.
August came and went and it is hard to think 3 months has passed since I
have been here. I went to my first European Futbol aka soccer game here in
Naples, watched team Napoli. Our team is pretty good we made the champions
league and placed 2nd in the league last year to our rival. Fans are
passionate here lighting flares after every score and the chants are so loud
and in unison.
Labor Day weekend was the start of our 6 month span of a 96 (4 day weekend
for military) which means traveling. I originally wanted to visit Vienna,
Austria but went to Amsterdam with the clinic guys instead. It was my 2nd go
around since I visited in 2007 with Jamie and my mindset this time was good
eats and local experiences. The neighborhood we settled in for beer felt
like a suburb of the city kind of like North Park. Great beer selections on
hand, the guys I traveled with are well versed in their craft beers.
What we looked forward to was dinner at a Ramen restaurant. You may be
thinking ramen in Amsterdam? But when you actually live here in Italy it's
not the same food selection as in SD/CA/USA. You may crave a burger and go
to In N out one day, Mexican grab Lolita's the next, sushi, ramen and are
within in a 20 minute drive and you can do this in one day or within a week.
Selection is limited here and the quality is not subpar to back home
although Amsterdam ramen did hit the spot. Debauchery night of drinking but
observing the younger one's have a good time. We decided on 48 hours in
Amsterdam was enough leaving Sunday so Monday was a whole day of rest. I
love Amsterdam the people, the culture, the atmosphere of hopping on a bike
getting to where you need to be, how welcoming they are about speaking
English, and cleanliness of the city.
Nothing else going on or have much to say just wanted to get a quick update
in since it has been a minute. Ciao!
